Aftercare Instructions

These are the recommended aftercare instructions from Catharsis Tattoo, Naples, FL.

Two methods are listed below. Steven will recommend and review a method for you to use after completion of your tattoo session, however, this can be used as a reminder over the course of your healing. Read thoroughly through the instructions to avoid any problems in your healing process.

*Notify Steven if you have an allergy to adhesives, latex or if you have overly sensitive skin.

Method 1: Saniderm

Saniderm helps to prevent scabbing and expedite the initial healing process.

- Upon completion of the tattoo, the area will be cleaned one final time with liquid antibacterial soap, sprayed with Bactine and covered with plastic wrap to reduce irritation and stop bleeding.

- After the skin has settled, the wrap will be removed, and the skin will be patted dry with a fresh paper towel.

- Now that the skin is clean and dry, the Saniderm adhesive medical covering will be applied over your tattoo.

- The covering will be cut to fit over your tattoo as well as 2 inches surrounding the tattoo, to ensure a secure seal, allowing no bacteria to enter the area.

- Once the Saniderm is secure, you may wear this waterproof covering for 24 hours. (It is still recommended that you do not submerge/allow the tattoo to soak in any body of water in case an opening in the seal occurs)

- If you notice any break in the seal, an excessive amount of air bubbles, or any new/increasing irritation in the skin, you should remove the covering and refer to “Method 2” from that point forward.

Removing Saniderm:

- Wash your hands.

- Slowly peel from closest corner of the covering to you, down and diagonally across itself (Pull down, not outward) until it is removed.

- If necessary, remove in the shower under warm water to help with the peeling.

- Do not try to remove Saniderm quickly like a band-aid.

After Removal:

- Re-wash your hands.

- Using your hand, wash the tattoo and surrounding area with liquid antibacterial soap, rinse with water, and let air dry.

 - You have the option to reapply Saniderm for up to 3 days at this point. If you are interested in this option, Steven will show you the necessary steps for application, and send you home with your own sheet of Saniderm. Ask Steven for the details and benefit of this during your consultation.

- If you choose not to reapply, continue the following healing process for 2 weeks.

- Wash your tattoo 2 times per day with clean hands and liquid antibacterial soap. Rinse with water each time and let air dry. (If your tattoo is exposed to any conditions that would require more cleaning, then add additional washes as necessary)

- Use non-scented lotion as necessary. Apply minimally, just enough to moisturize the skin but not oversaturate. (Do not use anything petroleum based)

- Do not allow your tattoo over-exposure to sunlight.

- Do not submerge/soak your tattoo in any body of water.

- Do not scratch or pick at your tattoo. If it is itchy, you may pat it to alleviate the itching.

Method 2: Plastic Wrap

- Upon completion of the tattoo, the area will be cleaned one final time with liquid antibacterial soap, sprayed with Bactine and covered with plastic wrap to reduce irritation and stop bleeding.

- After the skin has settled, the wrap will be removed, and the skin will be patted dry with a fresh paper towel.

- Now that the skin is clean and dry, a fresh piece of plastic wrap will be placed over the tattoo and surrounding area.

- You will leave this wrap on for 4 hours before removing.

- Remove the wrap and wash your hands.

- Using your hand, wash the tattoo and surrounding area with liquid antibacterial soap, rinse with water, and let air dry. (You may let the tattoo remain exposed and air dry throughout the day, as long as you will not be in any circumstances in which the tattoo could get dirty)

- Using the same method, wash your tattoo 2 – 3 times per day, for two weeks. (If your tattoo is exposed to any conditions that would require more cleaning, then add additional washes as necessary)

- For the first 2 nights, after your tattoo is clean and dry, wrap the tattoo and surrounding area with a fresh piece of plastic wrap to protect it from any bacteria in your bedding, and to prevent the blood and plasma that will continue to push out, from sticking to your bedding.

- Remove this wrap each following morning and continue with the same cleaning process listed above.

- Use non-scented lotion as necessary. Apply minimally, just enough to moisturize the skin but not oversaturate. (Do not use anything petroleum based)

- Do not allow your tattoo in contact with any pet or pet dander.

- Do not submerge/soak your tattoo in any body of water.

- Do not allow your tattoo over-exposure to sunlight.

- Do not scratch or pick at your tattoo. If it is itchy, you may pat it to alleviate the itching.

- Do not remove any scabs that may develop. Allow them to heal naturally.
